Lost?
The following is an attempt to answer the basic questions for how you can contribute to this blog….
- Q: Who can access the blog?
A:
Anyone who trips over the URL can read this blog. - Q: Who can write comments to blog posts?
A:
Anyone can add comments without registering with the blog, by providing some basic information (name and e-mail, which only the blog managers can see) and solving a simple math problem (to prevent “spam bots” from posting things). However, you can also register with the blog to avoid filling in additional fields. - Q: Who can add new posts to the blog?
A:
To do this, you must be registered with the blog (which you can easily do yourself), and you should tell either p00ky or SamBach that you want to contribute articles (which may take a little longer). Simple as that! - Q: How do I register? A: Look along the right side of any of the blog pages for the section labelled Meta. You’ll see a Register link righat at the top. Create a name and provide an e-mail address; you will be e-mailed a passord, then you can log in. From the blog Dashboard you can edit your profile and change your password to something easier to remember if you prefer.
- Q: What can I write about?
A:
We have some carefully selected topics file things under, but if you have something else in mind, give p00ky a buzz in the channel and he’ll consider adding to them. - Q: How do I create a new post?
A:
Once you’ve registered at the blog and been given Authorship rights, look down the right side of the page for the “Meta” section. If you aren’t logged in, click on “Login” and you will be taken to the blog Dashboard. If you are logged in, the top link (may say “Write” or “Site Admin”) will take you to the Dashboard. In the menu bar at the top of the page, click on Write and you’ll be given a page with an edit screen and some option menus along the right-hand side. In general, you can leave the stuff at the right alone except for the Categories and Post Status sections. For categories, choose the most appropriate for the post you plan to write. For status, you should have 3 options: Private (only you and site administrators can see the post), Draft (lets you store works-in-progress until ready to make public), and Published (this makes the post public for anyone to see). And… voilá! - Q: How can I edit something I’ve already posted?
A:
If you are logged into the blog, there should be an Edit link appearing at the bottom of your posts. However, comments to other people’s posts cannot be edited once submitted except by blog administrators (which isn’t such a bad thing, as the editor is a bit buggy right now).
Any other questions? Don’t be afraid to ask!
